Senior Mental Health & Wellness

Promoting mental well-being in our aging community.

Senior Mental Health & Wellness

Introduction

As seniors age, they may face isolation, grief, and changing health conditions. For migrant and refugee seniors, these challenges can be compounded by language barriers, loss of community, and unfamiliar systems. Emotional well-being is key to aging with dignity and purpose.

AmEnough Society promotes holistic wellness for seniors, emphasizing connection, cultural pride, and access to mental health care that respects tradition and identity.

What We Offer

Our senior wellness support is practical, personal, and community-driven. We provide:
  • Home Visit Wellness Checks: Regular friendly visits to ensure seniors feel supported, connected, and safe in their homes.
  • Appointment Support: Assistance with attending medical, social, or mental health appointments — including accompaniment and interpretation where possible.
  • Food Bank Home Deliveries: For seniors who have mobility challenges, we deliver culturally appropriate food items directly to their homes through our Nourish & Flourish initiative.
  • Volunteering & Community Engagement: We encourage and support seniors to participate in volunteering activities that bring purpose, joy, and intergenerational connection.
  • Peer Connection Circles: Group gatherings and storytelling sessions to reduce loneliness and build a sense of belonging.
  • Referrals to Mental Health & Wellness Services: Guidance and navigation support to connect seniors with multicultural counselling and mental health programs in BC.
  • Workshops on Positive Aging: Sessions focusing on coping with grief, maintaining emotional health, and embracing meaningful social engagement.

Wellness Tips for Seniors and Caregivers

Stay Socially Connected: Join local cultural, faith, or community groups — relationships protect emotional health.

Stay Active: Gentle physical activity like walking, stretching, or dancing helps improve mood and energy.

Eat Well: Balanced, culturally familiar meals promote both physical and emotional health.

Speak Up: If you’re feeling low, anxious, or lonely, it’s okay to talk about it. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength.

Volunteer: Helping others fosters connection and a renewed sense of purpose.
