Because understanding your mental health is the first step toward healing.
Many newcomers, refugees, and marginalized individuals carry invisible wounds—stress, trauma, anxiety, or depression—that are often overlooked or misunderstood. If you’re feeling “off” but can’t explain why, taking a self-diagnosis can be a powerful starting point toward healing.
At Am Enough Society, we believe everyone deserves access to safe, stigma-free mental health support—starting with awareness.
What Is a Mental Health Self-Diagnosis?
A self-diagnosis tool helps you reflect on your mental and emotional state. It’s not a clinical diagnosis, but it gives insight into your feelings and why. Think of it as a guided mental health check-in—especially useful if:
-
You feel anxious, overwhelmed, or numb.
-
You’re having trouble sleeping, concentrating, or connecting with others.
-
You’ve experienced trauma or loss, and you’re unsure how it’s affecting you.
How to Take a Self-Diagnosis
1. Find a quiet space
Choose a calm environment where you won’t be interrupted.
2. Use a reputable tool
Am Enough Society offers a simple, culturally sensitive self-check form (available here). You can also use free tools from:
Mental Health Meter (CMHA)
Mind Diagnostics
Heads Up Guys – for Men
3. Answer honestly
There’s no right or wrong answer. This is for you. Be honest about how you feel, even if it’s hard.
4. Reflect on your results
Your responses may indicate symptoms of stress, depression, PTSD, anxiety, or burnout. That’s not a label—it’s a signal.
What to Do Next
Taking a self-diagnosis is only the beginning. Here’s how to move forward:
1. Talk to Someone Safe
Reach out to a mental health support group, a trusted friend, or an organization like Am Enough Society. You don’t have to go through it alone.
2. Seek Professional Support
If your results suggest deeper concerns, consider connecting with:
-
A counsellor or therapist (we offer referrals)
-
Crisis lines (like 310-6789 in BC or 988 nationwide)
-
Your family doctor
3. Practice Daily Care
Healing is a journey. Start with simple habits:
-
Morning affirmations
-
Journaling
-
Walking or physical activity
-
Joining community groups
4. Know You Are Not Broken
A diagnosis doesn’t define you. It helps explain what you’re feeling. And that knowledge gives you the power to heal.
“Naming the pain is the first step to taming it.”
Special Note for Refugees & Newcomers
You may have gone through things no one else can understand—war, displacement, loss. Self-diagnosis isn’t weakness; it’s wisdom. It’s saying, “I matter enough to pause and ask, what’s going on inside me?”
